About us
The Meetingpoint Memory Messiaen e.V. has set itself to raise public awareness of the history and the fates of the prisoners of the former prisoner-of-war camp Stalag VIII A on a world-wide scale together with its Polish partner, the Foundation Remembrance, Education, Culture. Next to the POWs the history of National Socialism, the Shoah and the Second World War form the main pillars of the society’s work.
Another key to remembering the fate of 120,000 prisoners of war is the premiere of the "Quatour pour la fin du temps" by the French composer Olivier Messiaen in 1941 in Stalag VIII A, which is another point of reference for the association's work.
The joint operation of the German-Polish memorial, research of its history as well as educational work using modern formats of cultural and historical-political education with an international orientation and focus on young people, form the core of the association's work.

Mit den gesammelten Mitteln werden wichtige Schritte zur Konservierung, Restaurierung und mittel- bis langfristig der Nutzung der Baracke vom Typ RLM 501 finanziert. Ziel ist es, die Baracke als Teil des Projekts des Meetingpoint Memory Messiaen e.V. und der Stiftung Erinnerung, Bildung, Kultur als Kulturdenkmal zu erhalten und nutzbar zu machen.
Hauptsächlich konzentrieren sich die Arbeiten zur Zeit auf:
Holzkonservierung, einschließlich Fenster (Holz, Metall, Glas) und Türen (Holz, Beschläge, Schlösser). Konservierung der Bausubstanz, einschließlich konstruktiver Elemente und originaler Ausstattung. Der weitere Projektverlauf (mittelfristig) umfasst folgende Maßnahmen:
Rekonstruktion fehlender Originalteile, z. B. durch Beschaffung von historischem Glas. Anschluss von Versorgungsleitungen: Strom, Wasser und Abwasser. Ausstattung von Arbeitsbereichen: Bereitstellung von Tischen, Beleuchtung, sowie Trocken- und Lüftungsanlagen. Raumheizung: Installation von Heizsystemen für Arbeits- und Aufenthaltsbereiche. Lagerung von Materialien: Einrichtung eines Chemikalien- und Werkzeuglagers. Entsorgung von Abfällen: Schaffung von Bereichen für trockene (z. B. Holzreste, Lackreste, Sägespäne) und nasse Abfälle (z. B. Lösungsmittel, chemische Reststoffe). Sanitäre Infrastruktur: Bau von Toiletten und Aufenthaltsräumen. Unterbringung der Restaurierungsteams: Unterkunft für die beteiligten Fachkräfte. Wir danken Ihnen für Ihre Unterstützung!
