About us
Darmstädter Tafel e.V. was founded in 1995 and is committed to helping those in need in the Darmstadt area.
The Tafel idea works - Tafel and donors work hand in hand: saving food and helping people affected by poverty.
Not all people have their daily bread, despite food in abundance. The Tafel builds a bridge between poverty and abundance and strives with volunteers for a balance.
Employees in stores and canteens make sure that food is taken off the shelves in good time before the best-before date expires. The goods provided are picked up by cooling vehicles and sorted in the warehouse.
Monday - Friday the goods are distributed to the needy in the morning for a small contribution towards expenses. Every week, the Darmstädter Tafel supplies approximately 1,200 people with food.
In the lounge of the Darmstädter Tafel, breakfast, coffee & cake and a warm lunch are offered daily for a small fee. In this way, social contacts are also maintained, an important element for all customers and volunteers.
