About us

BACKGROUND. The importance of dance as an art and as a mean of communication in Africa;
The necessity for artists and actors in the dance field in Africa (dancers, choreographers, administrators, directors of festivals), to expand this field locally and worldwide and to join their actions such that this sector fully develops. Dance is a strong tool for development and reintegration which contributes enormously to fight against poverty.
MISSION STATEMENT: Job creation, cultural enrichment community building, skills development. PERFORMANCE COMPANY The association early activity was the choreographic creation through its company named Phénix. This company presents a professional contemporary cameroonian cross cultural experience.
WORKSHOPS TRAININGS AND RESIDENCIES: In order to develop exchanges between african companies themselves and between african companies and companies from other parts of the World, the Meka Association organises workshops’ training for dancers and choreographers of Africa, by inviting African or European trainers.
EDUDANCE TRAINING. Association has developed a socioeconomic dance program with street children. Its aim is to form those children and later, provide them an employment. Edudance was also established as a response of the need to form dancers’ members of Phénix company.
ABOK I NGOMA: INTERNATIONAL DANCE AND PERCUSSION FESTIVAL. This festival has been organised by the Meka association every two years since 2002. Abok i Ngoma festival brings together choreographers, dancers, percussionists, cultural managers and other professionals from all over the world, in a unique opportunity of performances, professional workshops of dance and percussion, master classes, movie’s projections, dance’s productions.
