Angels for Children

About us

We - this is the foundation Angels for Children - are supporting schools in Laos since 2003. All started from a shoestring, by renovating a primary school in Ban Sikeud, a small village 15km outside the capital Vientiane. By the time, our tasks got bigger and more various, meanwhile we are supporting, besides the school in Ban Sikeud, another primary school and a secondary school in Ban Phanheng, the neighboring village, with around 1600 pupils at all. All schools were completely renovated and equipped with new furniture; we also provide basic health care and purchase the school materials for all students. Although the school is supported by a private foundation, it still remains as a public school, the parents don't need to pay for school fees, but the children get a better education. All of this was only possible because of donations.

For a few years we also have our own exchange program for volunteers, with two to three young people coming for the school year, mostly teacher trainees from Germany, who teach English language together with the local teachers. Most of the Lao teachers only had a rudimentary education at university, due to this there is a lack of pedagogical background knowledge, how to organize instructive, diversified and interesting lessons.

Together with the Pedagogical University Karlsruhe we want to provide new teachings methods and materials. We want to provide diversified lessons with the needed material, with the laminator and the copying machine new teachings materials can be made. Paint boxes are always needed for handicraft lessons, also education games and exercises can be drawn by the students, which can be laminated and often used during lessons. The two computers will be used in the teacher’s room, to prepare lessons and create new materials.

A good basic education, which we try to reach in our schools, is very essential in a country, where nearly 30% of the people are illiterates. Growing tourism and industry provide good opportunities of income for young people in Laos, but conditions for those jobs are good English skills, for which we need your support!
