About us
WeForest plants trees and brings back forests in order to Make Earth Cooler; transforming landscapes for Climate, People & Planet.
Our mission is to scale-up, monitor and report on the impact of forest and landscape restoration, contributing to the realisation of the NYDF (New York Declaration on Forests), in order to limit global warming to 2 °C temperature increase.
Our vision is a world where communities, and nations, sustainably manage their forests, landscapes and natural capital to mitigate climate change, enhance livelihoods, increase resilience and safeguard biodiversity.
Trees are the best known ‘technology’ to cool our planet: they absorb the excess CO2 from the atmosphere. 50% of a tree’s biomass is actually carbon! Forests also make clouds by releasing water vapour and microscopic nuclei in the atmosphere, which through a high albedo effect, reflect the solar radiation back into space having a global cooling effect.

In Machakel wereda, a mere 8.61% of the land area is covered by forest. Here, villagers are at the heart of our restoration efforts, which take a holistic approach to tackle environmental threats and promote the resilience of local people.
