About us

NIJMAH* - a joint adventure

NIJMAH* is a Palestinian-German NGO founded in February 2012 in Berlin and since June 2013 also in Palestine by a group of Palestinians, Germans and Internationals coming from different backgrounds with a strong common vision: to encourage and support Palestinians to become the authors of their own, sustainable success stories in various fields, like education, health, culture, environment, architecture and social business.

One main focus is on educational and exchange programs for young Palestinians. The pilot projects showed the incredible unexpected impact the internship programs can have. It turned out that the intercultural exchange became as much important as the transfer of knowledge and that both went in both directions successfully. The young people became highly appreciated “bi-lateral” ambassadors. The first letters of recommendation finished with: “It was an honor for us to have you in our agency…”

In consequence, NIJMAH* is always looking for projects that could give these unheard smart voices a say and change the media image which focuses on suffering or aggression but rarely shows the amazing people, the daily life giants, as Line Hadsbjerg calls them in her great, inspiring book about “Remarkable South Africans”. And from here it was just a question to ask Line: “What’s about Remarkable Palestinians?” and the cooperation started. Giving them a say and the possibility to prove the world that despite their hard life in their occupied country, they are committed to work on a “Bukra ahla”, a better tomorrow, always ready to heartily welcome those who support their peaceful struggle, as did the South Africans before them!
