About us

Omid-e Punjab is a registered charity based in Munich, Germany. We support a shelter home for people with mental disabilities in Lahore, Pakistan.

About 90 residents have found a new home at the Dar ul-Krishma, or House of Wonders in English. The caregivers provide them with regular, healthy meals, new clothes, and they also watch their basic hygiene. Focused therapy cannot be offered at this stage because the home is understaffed and underfunded. Logistic problems such as frequent electricity and gas cuts make their work difficult.

Omid-e Punjab supports the home on a short term and long term basis. Last year, we had solar panels installed to counter electricity cuts. We also funded two professional water filter systems that provide all residents with clean drinking water. In the spring of 2014, we financed the renovation of the main bathrooms in the living quarters of the male residents, and organized training for the staff in hygiene by a professional nurse. As a result, infection rates have decreased dramatically.

However, there is a lot left to do. While our current efforts focus on a further improvement of hygiene and basic provision of drinking water and electricity, our vision is to enable the caregivers to professionally care for the disabled residents, by providing training and funding. Qualified personnel is merely available in Pakistan, and appropriate vocational training is hard to organize.

Our contact with the home goes back to 2011, when two of our members traveled to Pakistan for their doctoral research. By chance they came across this project and decided to support it. We believe that people on the ground know best what they need. All our projects are planned and realized in close cooperation with our partners on the ground.
All members of Omid-e Punjab work voluntarily and for free. We spend only 1% of all collected funds on administration and campaigns! 99% of all donations we collect goes directly to the project!
