About us

"The child is innocent" is a humanitarian grassroot movement based in Gulu in northern Uganda. The purpose is to ensure disadvantaged children a good education in primary and secondary schools. The organization was founded in 2004 while it was still war and conflicts in the region, particularly because of the terror that Joseph Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army inflicted on the population.
In October 2011 it was formed a Norwegian sister organization called "The Child is Innocent, Norway."
Many children and youth who are included in our program, has had a traumatic childhood with acts of war, hostage taking, and have seen the killings and mutilation of family members. Families were divided and spread over large areas. Some were recovered, others not. At most, there were 1.5 million people in refugee camps. After the war ended in 2007/2008 the camps were gradually emptied, and it is believed that today there are about 160 000 people remain in these camps, which, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council. However, the most disadvantaged are still left in the camps.
YOU can make a difference for children from northern Uganda by donating money, and to ensure a child a good education, and initiate further education and a dignified future.
