Climb for Climate
Already 12 donations 🤍
What’s it about
In the high mountains, climate change is particularly visible, I noticed that last year on my first alpine tours. Some of the glaciers have lost 100m of thickness and the accident at the Marmolada, where 11 people died, has shown what happens in the Alps when it gets too warm. Therefore I would like to take my first 4000m ascent as an opportunity to draw attention to climate change and to collect donations which will then go to Munich- based environmental protection organizations. The donation goal corresponds to the height of the Gran Paradiso in the Aosta Valley, which we want to climb in the first week of July. The Gran Paradiso is the highest mountain that stands alone on Italian soil and has a very interesting passage just before the summit. Until then there is still a lot to train, because per 100 meters of altitude you lose 1% oxygen and also 1% of power, so I want to take you on my journey to my first 4000m peak.

Klimawandel im Stubai- Climate change in Stubai

Benita Weh posted this update on August 26, 2023.
On our last tour through the Stubai, you could see exactly what has changed in the last 100 years. 100 years ago we would have walked the 6 days almost exclusively over glaciers, today only small remnants of the once majestic white giants are left and everywhere the rock is crumbling. Mountains are starting to collapse in on themselves and huge boulders keep crashing down. Already in 10 years most of the eastern alpine glaciers will have disappeared. Another problem is also shown by yesterday's news from the DAV: The Pragser Hütte will be closed prematurely (about 3 weeks earlier) because there is no more water. The hut is, like many others in the high mountains, supplied by snowmelt and because it has snowed so little the season is over prematurely. Climate change has also arrived at 3000m.
