What’s it about
I am running the Berlin Half Marathon on 3 April to fundraise for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) based in Kyiv, Warsaw and Berlin.
The invasion of Ukraine has triggered the worst humanitarian crisis in Europe since the second world war, according to the United Nations. More than 3 million Ukrainian refugees have so far crossed into neighbouring countries in the space of 20 days. What we are witnessing is a growing humanitarian catastrophe on a scale our continent hasn’t seen for over 75 years.
Poland, Hungary and Germany are providing most of the immediate help to stranded refugees at this stage of the crisis. Tens of thousands of refugees, mainly women and children, are arriving in these countries every day and require immediate help. Aid agencies, non-governmental organisations, local authorities, and even individual citizens have been providing basics such as food and medicines.
Much more fast and uncomplicated financial help is now needed to support aid organisations at the scene. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) are on the ground supporting people who have been forced to leave their homes and is working close with authorities, aid agencies and other organisations to provide humanitarian assistance.
I would be very grateful for any support. If you would like to donate, please follow the link below.
FYI: betterplace.org is Germany’s largest fundraising and donation platform and is part of the Initiative ‘Transparent Civil Society’ from Transparency International. Donating is safe and easy. Tax receipts will be automatically sent to you at the beginning of the next tax year.
