What’s it about
Finally I m back to Greece to work with Medical Volunteers International to provide medical care for displaced people on Lesbos. After Moria burned down in September approx. 8200 of its most vulnerable population have been moved to a provisional camp next to Kara Tepe giving shelter to children, women, lgbtqi, injured and traumatized among them 1.200 unaccompanied minors.
The catastrophic conditions in the camps on Lesbos have been criticized for years, implementing basic hygiene measures is impossible in the overcrowded setting with lacking sanitary facilities making the current situation particularly life-threatening for its vulnerable population.

Working for MVI in Athens in 2018 has shown me how important the work of small NGOs is that can quickly adapt to fast changing situations. MVI has been sending doctors, nurses and paramedics in crisis areas providing free medical care to displaced people since 2016 starting out of a project at Idomeni camp - today carrying out missions in Athens, Thessaloniki and Lesbos.
On Lesbos MVI is treating 1200 patients monthly providing basic medical care, management for complex cases, an emergency room and mental health project. The medical center that has been set up at Kara Tepe after the fire in Moria is lacking medication, bandages, disinfectants and protective gear. Also funding is needed for operational costs to ensure organization and transport of the volunteers.
