What’s it about
What is Das Frühchen e.V.??
Did you know...
About every 10th newborn is a premature baby.
This is around 60,000 children a year in Germany.
This makes the premature infants the largest children's patient group in Germany.
Very few parents are prepared for the premature birth of their child.
During the weeks or even months long hospital stays and also bringing their child home for the first time, parents are emotionally burdened and feel helpless and left alone.
- Das Frühchen e.V. supports the affected families in the context of family support around the topic of premature birth and its consequences.
- They promote therapies in the field of neonatology, support the education and training of professionals who look after the affected children and help answer their parents' medical questions.
- They bring affected parents together to exchange experiences and help to form long-term contacts.
- They look after the well being of parents of premature and at-risk children.
- They draw attention to the subject of premature birth in order to understand the problems and better lobby for those affected
- ....and much more!
What our team will be doing. Our team consists of EMBO and EMBL staff all connected through the No Excuses fitness training club. Myself (Christopher Rickerby), Erica Boxheimer, Stefan Terjung, Zaharina Slavova-Hristova and Marina Thery have all committed to run/walk 58 loops of the ATC inner helix (up and down).

Dear sponsors,
We have just finished running the Mt Blanc challenge and I would like to personally thank you for your assistance and donations. At the event today we met some of the recipients of today's donations and I can guarantee you that your funds have gone to a worthy cause. Some of the personal stories that I heard are truly heart breaking but with the help of Das Frühchen, there is hope for these families.
I am unsure of our actual time but we managed to finish the challenge in under an hour. We are all very pleased with the achievement.
