What’s it about

As many of you know, I have been a passionate activist for Tibet for many, many years. It has now been almost 15 years ago that I heard about a Free Tibet Action Camp for the first time and spent an entire summer week camping, climbing and learning about Tibet from some of the most inspiring Tibet activists in the movement. Since then, I have been more and less active over the years, organized protests in the US, India, France and Germany, and have been particularly engaged with the Tibet Initiative Deutschland since 2010. Because I believe that we are stronger together!

It’s because of this belief that I am asking you to donate to Tibet Initiative as part of my birthday celebrations this year since this organization is very dear to my heart.

As a member of the volunteer Board of Directors, I get to hear many details of our political work. And I see the big challenges ahead of us! In case you haven’t heard: the Chinese government is currently keeping up to 1 million Uighurs (a muslim minority in China) locked up in huge internment camps in the Chinese province of Xinjiang. In these camps, people are forced to learn Chinese language, publicly perform Chinese propaganda and are not allowed to practice their religion. We are deeply concerned that such internment camps will soon be common practice in Tibet and the rest of China.

In order to make the human rights violations by the Chinese government public, the Tibet Initiative has been a part of the Tibet Advocacy Coalition for several years now and advocates for Tibet at the United Nations jointly with other Tibet organizations. Last year, this proved hugely successful at the  United Nations Human Rights Council: a total of nine member states mentioned Tibet explicitly in their review of China! In order for us to continue this important work and expose China’s oppressive politics in Tibet, your support matters!

So, I would be really thrilled if you could make a donation of 10 or 15 EUR or USD to the Tibet Initiative as a birthday present for me! I appreciate every donation made and thank you from the bottom of my heart!
