Ausbildung und Sicherheit sind für mich und viele Menschen in weit entwickelten Staaten eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Mit meiner Spendenaktion möchte ich dazu beitragen, dass auch die Kinder der auf einer Insel im ugandischen Bunyonyi-See gelegenen Secondary School jeden Tag sicher zur Schule gelangen. Mit den Spendengeldern soll die Anschaffung eines Elektromotors zum Betrieb einer Solarfähre unterstützt werden. Bis heute kommen viele Kinder nur unregelmäßig mit sogenannter Dug-Outs, wackeligen Paddelbooten, zur Schule. Bei schlechtem Wetter eine lebensgefährliche Angelgenheit. Sonnenenergie ist die einzige verlässliche Energiequelle vor Ort. Ein Elektromotor kostet circa 4000 Euro. Im Sommer werde ich nach Uganda reisen, um mir vor Ort einen Eindruck von dem Projekt zu verschaffen.
Um für meine Spendenaktion zu werben, verbinde ich meinen Spendenaufruf mit einem persönlichen Einsatz. Im Juni 2019 werde ich knapp 1000 km von zuhause über die Alpen bis in das Herz der Toskana radeln. Noch nie zuvor habe ich etwas Vergleichbares gemacht. Ich hoffe, meine persönliche Anstrengung motiviert euch zusätzlich, die Kinder der Bunyonyi Secondary School durch eine Spende zu unterstützen.

Education and security are a given for me and many people in highly developed countries. With my fund-raiser, I want to provide that to children that don’t have it. In a particular area of Uganda, the Bunyonyi Elementary school is located on an island in the middle of Lake Bunyonyi. With the donations, an electric engine will be purchased, which will move a solar ferry. Until today, most children make their way to school in insecure dugouts, which can be life threatening, especially under bad weather conditions. Solar energy is the only continuous and reliable energy source at the lake and for the school. These engines cost about 4000€ (4500 USD). In summer, I plan to travel to Uganda to get a direct understanding of the school and the project.
To raise the funds, I am pledging bicycle miles for donations. In June 2019 I will ride on my bicycle 1000km (about 620 miles) across the Alps from my home town in Aidlingen, Germany all the way to the heart of Tuscany, Italy. I have never done a ride like this before. I hope my personal effort and strain will motivate you even more to support the Children of the Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School with a donation.

Great news! My company, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, has just confirmed to double the amount of all your donations contributed until today. That brings us to almost 9000 USD to support the entire project to provide safe school transportation for the kids of the Elementary School at Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda!
