What’s it about

This project will involve the youths aged 13-25 years gaining practical skills required to fit in the ever changing world, they will have what it takes to be self-reliant and also fit to compete in the job market. This training facility will help in reduction of poverty through the empowerment of youths with skills and capital to develop their self-initiated projects which have been identified as an essential component of poverty reduction and employment creation strategy.

The centre will help to reduce economic and social problems in the district and the region at large. Unemployment in Tanzania is rampant and there is little actually very little that has been done to overcome the problem, researchers attribute the problem to poor education system among other factors. LyataNdyaliin a recently published paper 2016 “Higher Education System and Jobless Graduates in Tanzania” found that there is a mismatch between teachings in the institutions of learning and the needs of the labor market. The paper also shows that majority of students learn through lectures and academic textbooks and are academically sound but they have limited opportunities of acquiring practical experience by using machinery, equipment and practical techniques associated with the professions.

Unemployment has led to engagement of youths into bad habits such as drug abuse, alcoholism, theft, gangsters, kidnapping etc and the situation is worse in both rural and urban. To intervene the problem, TEHDSO is proposing the construction of a youth training centre which will offer training on entrepreneurship skills, ICT training, Video shooting, editing and production, Tailoring and provision of credit services/ revolving fund for entrepreneurial activities for the purpose of restricting them from leaving their homes and meander into streets in nearby towns and cities where they end up attracted to engage into bad habits because of lack of knowledge and required skills to earn a living.

Within 3 years after its establishment, the project targets to assist 2,500 youths of which 1,200 youths through training on entrepreneurial skill, 600 youths on tailoring, 200 on video shooting, editing and production, and 500 youth participated in the ICT training within Mara region and Lake zone regions.

The project targets the youths within the age group of 13-25, basing on the figures given by (MKUKUTA Poverty and Human Development Report, 2011), this group suffers from unemployment and therefore as an organization we intend to bail them out through this project. On top of that, World Bank notes that <1% of loan portfolios of loan providers are directed at those under the age of 30. TEHDSO is taking initiatives to help this group because their call for help needs an immediate course of reaction.

Our team intends to make this project a very outstanding program in the region and a leading example for those intending to run such projects in future, the after training services like loans with no interest, supervision, seminars, workshops and consultation services assures our beneficiaries of business growth and an opportunity to self-reliance.
The TEHDSO team intends to offer three things to make the project success, the first is Commitment where all TEHDSO members will show the spirit of commitment, effectiveness and diversity, secondly Transparency, where leaders and members will do things with transparency in matters that involve the use of organizations resources by providing all stakeholders with physical and financial implementation reports, and lastly Respect, where these members will show the potential and dignity of human being have worth and is being respected by our organization.
