Wir radeln, ihr spendet - für Räder in Afrika!

Wir drei, Jonas, Marie und Adrian, radeln diesen Sommer sieben Wochen lang Richtung Süd-Ost-Europa. Mit Isomatte, Schlafsack, Zelt und unseren restlichen Siebensachen machen wir uns ohne großartige Planung auf, die Länder zwischen Bayern und dem Bosporus zu erkunden. Welche Route am Ende hinter uns liegen wird und ob wir bald in Athen die Akropolis bewundern oder ins schwarze Meer springen werden, steht noch in den Sternen, und das ist auch gut so. Denn unser Ziel ist es, mit wenigen Mitteln diese uns unbekannte Landmasse in all seinen Facetten kennenzulernen. Möglich macht uns das der Drahtesel, die flinke Möhre – der beste fahrbare Untersatz.

Fahrräder halten nicht nur fit und schonen die Umwelt, sondern bringen Menschen um ein Vielfaches schneller als zu Fuß von A nach B. Doch nicht jeder, der gerne ein Rad hätte und es viel dringender braucht als unsereins, besitzt eines. Wir haben uns deshalb entschieden, hier für die Organisation World Bicycle Relief Spenden zu sammeln. Dieses Projekt stellt Schülern, Krankenpflegern und Kleinstunternehmern robuste, für die ländlichen Regionen Afrikas ausgelegte Fahrräder.
Mit einem Fahrrad kann sich die Lebenssituation bei den Betreffenden drastisch ändern: der Transport wird in jeder Hinsicht enorm erleichtert, Schüler schaffen sich selbst Zugang zu Bildung, was ansonsten nicht immer möglich ist, und Patienten erhalten öfter und vor allem rechtzeitig die Hilfe ihrer Pfleger. Für den Fall, dass ein Fahrrad kaputt gehen sollte, bildet World Bicycle Relief außerdem Mechaniker vor Ort aus, die die Räder wieder auf Vordermann bringen. Bis heute hat das Projekt in Afrika mehr als 280 000 Fahrräder übergeben und etwa 1000 Mechaniker geschult.

The three of us, Jonas, Marie and Adrian, are going to cycle throughout Southeast Europe for seven weeks this summer. Loaded with sleeping bag, roll mat, tent and the rest of our belongings we want to explore the countries between Bavaria and the Bosphorus, without planning too far ahead. What route we’ll have taken and whether we’ll soon admire the Acropolis in Athens or jump in the Black Sea is still written in the stars, and that is as it should be, for it is our aim to experience this to us unknown landmass in all its diversity. The pushbike, the trusty old boneshaker makes this possible and it is simply the best means of transportation.

Bicycles do not only keep the body fit and spare the environment, but also carry us humans many times faster than afoot from point A to point B. However, not everyone who would like to have and urgently needs a bike, owns one. Therefore, we decided to collect donations for the organisation World Bicycle Relief. This project supplies pupils, nurses and small-time entrepreneurs with sturdy, reliable bicycles, built for rural areas in Africa.
With a bike like this the living conditions can change drastically for the people concerned: transportation is eased tremendously in every way, students manage to go to school more often and arrive awake and on time, and patients obtain their nurses’ help timely and more often. Furthermore, in case a bike should break down, World Bicycle Relief trains mechanics locally. To this day, the project delivered more than 280,000 bikes and educated around 1,000 mechanics in Africa.
