A Word from the Executive Director of Song Saa Foundation
Dear Donors,
Although
not adverse to a good run, I must admit to being in awe of what Allen is
planning to do over the course of this year. Running 250 kilometers through one
desert would seem remarkable enough, but four! That is truly incredible. What
is more, Allen is using his efforts to raise awareness and funds for the Song
Saa Foundation, which I am proud to lead. And all of us at the Foundation, and
across the wider Song Saa family, are immeasurably grateful for what he is
training and planning to do.
Allen’s association with Song Saa goes back either longer than mine, which
started in 2011. But working in and around Song Saa Private Island, the resort
where his landscaping and horticultural expertise has come to the fore, it is
easy to see that we share the same values: an appreciation of nature, of
harmonizing with the world around you, and of using what is available and
making it even better. These are values that are truly sustainable, and which
lie at the heart of the Foundation’s mission in the Koh Rong archipelago, where
we work.
As for
these activities, the monies raised by Allen will be used to promote our sea,
land and people projects. Together, these initiatives seek to improve the
health and well-being of the Koh Rong archipelago – to create a future that is
bright and hopeful. And, like Allen’s plan to run the deserts of Namibia,
Antarctica, Chile and Mongolia, this is not always easy. However with the
support of generous donors, local communities, government authorities, and
dedicated supporters like Allen, we are confident that we can accomplish our
goal of a sustainable future for the people and environments of the Koh Rong
archipelago.
