What’s it about

Glenn Parry, owner and Chief Instructor at GP Martial Fitness Gymnasium, Leominster, along with Owen, Adie, James K, James D, Rich and Luke will take part in a sporting Challenge to raise money for a project to re-build The Ancestral Temple on Tian Men Shan, Zhangjiagie, China. Glenn is calling the event “The 5 Thunder Tian Men Challenge”.

On Sunday the 29th of March these guys will take part in five sporting disciplines at Leominster Halo Leisure centre.
Glenn explains, “Being a Martial Artist and fitness fanatic I have created a tough challenge for the lads that will hopefully inspire people to sponsor us.
I plan for us to Swim 1 mile of the Halo Pool, Cycle 10 miles on the spin bikes with a Halo Spin Instructor, run 3 miles on the tread mills, spar 10 rounds of Kickboxing and finish with 1hr of fitness tests back in the Halo gym. All monies raised will help fund this awesome project”!

The Ancestral temple is the ancient site that is dedicated to the Guardian of the Tian Men Mountain. This literally translates as Heavens Gate Mountain.

Glenn, a student of Grandmaster Li Zhiyi, China, and senior student of Master Steven Burton, founder of The 5 Thunder Chinese Martial Arts Association have been asked to help with fundraising. Glenn first travelled to China in 2005 where he was overwhelmed by the beauty of the country and its Martial Arts.

In 2011 his Chief Instructor and good friend Steven Burton invited him to China to train with Grandmaster Li Zhiyi in Zhanjiagie on Tian Men Mountain. Glenn has been lucky enough to have visited Grand Master Li and the temple ruins three times and will be going back in April to continue his Kung Fu and Tai Chi studies, and hopefully to surprise his Grandmaster with a generous donation towards the Temple re-build.

During the cultural revolution the temple was destroyed, and only 1/2 of the outer walls remain with the pagoda in front which is also in need or repair.
The temple is tended by the local people, who visit the ruined temple to prevent it from further damage and to ask for blessings.

In order to assist in the restoration of this wonderful building we are taking part in a sponsored sporting event to raise money. The local stonemasons have volunteered to do the work for free, however, the materials are needed to complete the task and this is where we come in.

The cost of materials will total £10,000 and it is our aim to raise as much as we can towards the rebuild costs.

News

The big weekend is here!

G. Parry posted this update on March 26, 2015.

Well Guys and Girls...

Its time to do the walking! The talking has been done and we are a  couple of days away from the Challenge.

A massive thank you to you all for the kind donations, we can't thank you enough.

The lads have put in heck of a lot of time and effort training for this and I'd like to say raring to go! But its going to be tough. Some don't like swimming, others running or like me getting punched in the face!

Good luck :-D

Thanks

Glenn and the team

Three joyful people raising hands with hearts and confetti, celebrating together.
