Make a Move - Make a Change is a project by the Heidelberg-based charity Make Change Possible eV (MCP) to encourage its members to do sponsored events, collate their kilometres covered and try to conquer a total of 8000 km. (The approx. distance from Heidelberg to Namibia) - see my news page for more info.
Inspired by a walk-to-school event, and the film "Sur le Chemin de l'école", during the first week of September I'll walk my usual 2 km to school, but I will walk/run home the long way round. Taking in scenic Heidelberg, I'll travel 8.5 km to get home every day for 5 days. This will make my initial contribution to the project just over 50 km and, if I can get 1 Euro per km, 50 euros.
It might not seem a lot, but it is about the idea as much as it is the money. If I can add 50 km and inspire two or three others to do an event, then MCP's network of supporters grows and the sense that we're all in this 8000 km together really starts to click. It's also about reminding people that there are children around the world who can't just pop in their car to get to school, children who cover miles and miles, kilometre after kilometre to get an education.
Betterplace.org forwards 100% of all donations. You can even track the use of funds. Not only is betterplace.org a great way to raise support, but it provides transparency as well, showing how your donation directly affects the project outcome.

Dear Friends,
Thank you for sponsoring me and sending my total well over my goal. Despite tired legs on Friday, my walking last week was lots of fun and allowed me to spend time in enjoying sunny Heidelberg. I'm delighted to have sent 80 Euros onto MCP. I am close enough to the charity to know that every cent will go on worthwhile, and in some cases, life saving projects.
It means a lot to have friends backing me in my little venture.
