Museum Marathon Berlin 2014

On Saturday, 26 April, we completed a sponsored walk around Berlin, passing 26 different museums on route (26 museums for the 26 miles in a marathon). Some museums we stop at only briefly to take a photo proving we've been there, others we were invited in for a short talk or look around. Due to a demonstration taking place in Berlin that day, and a couple of other minor hiccups, we had to change the planned route slightly. We started at 10am and finished just before 7pm. The final route covered over 15km.

As well as being good fun and an exciting challenge, the aim of the event was to raise money for the project "Tausendundeine Rampe für Deutschland" (1001 Ramps for Germany), which aims to provides ramps to shops and venues that are unaccessible to wheelchair users, walking frames and prams. Since accessibility is a topic that concerns museums too, we thought it was an appropriate choice. You can find out more about the cause, via the link in the right hand column. For each 100 Euro raised, the project will be able to buy one ramp. We're grateful for all donations, no matter how big or small, and thank you for all your support. The Museum Marathon is now over, but this page remains active for anyone still wanting to support the cause with a donation. Thank you!

Am Samstag, den 26. April, haben wir einen sogenannten "sponsored walk" durch Berlin, gemacht, vorbei an 26 verschiedenen Museen (26 Museen für die 26 Meilen in einem Marathon). Bei einigen Museen haben wir nur kurz Halt gemacht um ein Foto als Beweis aufzunehmen, bei anderen erwartete uns eine kleine Einführung oder Rundgang. Wegen einer Demonstration, die an dem Tag in Berlins statt fand, mussten wir die Route ein wenig ändern. Um 10 Uhr haben wir begonnen, und waren um kurz vor 19 Uhr fertig. Die finale Route war über 15km lang.

Aber die spannende Herausforderung sollte nicht nur Spaß machen, wir wollten dadurch ebenfalls Geld für einen wohltätigen Zweck sammeln, und zwar hatten wir uns dazu das Projekt "Tausendundeine Rampe für Deutschland" ausgesucht. Durch das Projekt werden Läden, Cafés und viele andere öffentliche Orte mit Rampen bestückt, damit sie auch für eingeschränkt mobile Menschen zugänglich sind. Da Barrierefreiheit auch für Museen ein großes Thema ist, fanden wir es passt gut zusammen. Über den Link unten rechts könnt ihr mehr über das Projekt erfahren. Pro 100 Euro kann das Projekt eine neue Rampe beschaffen. Wir freuen uns über jeden, der unseren Museums Marathon und das Projekt unterstützt hat, egal wie groß oder klein die Spende. Der Museum Marathon ist zwar jetzt abgeschlossen, diese Spendenseite bleibt aber bis auf weiteres aktiv, um das Projekt 1001 Rampe weiterhin zu unterstützen. Danke!
