Ryvanz Mia’s Farm liegt
nordöstlich des Waisenhauses. Um sie zu erreichen, läßt man die Stadt zuerst in
einer 10 minütigen Autofahrt hinter sich um dann zusätzlich noch etwa 20
Minuten in den ‚Busch‘ hinein zu wandern. Auf dem Farmland selbst gibt es gegenwärtig
keinerlei Infrastruktur – weder Gebäude, die Schatten spenden könnten, noch
Wasserversorgung. Alles, was man für die Farmarbeit benötigt – Werkzeuge,
Wasser, Nahrung – muss jedes Mal mitgebracht werden.

Das Farmland umfasst ca. 4ha, wovon derzeit weniger
als die Hälfte bewirtschaftet werden. Angebaut werden Mais, Maniok, Bohnen und
einige Bäume mit Kochbananen. Das Fernziel ist es, auf einer größeren Flächen anzupflanzen
und so den Nahrungsmittelbedarf eines Tages komplett selbst zu decken. Darüber
hinaus besteht die Hoffnung, zukünftig Überschüsse zu produzieren, die dann auf
dem Markt verkauft werden könnten, um wiederum weitere Verbesserungen auf der
Farm zu finanzieren.

The farm is located northwest of town. Getting there takes 10 minutes
by car and there’s an additional 20 minute hike into the bush by foot. At the
farm itself there is no infrastructure whatsoever – no buildings to provide
protection from the sun and no water supply. Everything needed for a day at the
farm – tools, water, food – has to be carried there each time.

The farm has a size of 10 acres but less than half of it is being used
at the moment. Crops grown include corn/maize, cassava, beans and some plantain
trees. The long term goal is to grow crops on more space than in the present
time to eventually harvest enough crops from the farm to supply the orphanage
with food throughout the year. There is also hope to one day harvest even more
than necessary and to sell that at the local market and use this income to
further finance improvements on the farm.
