What’s it about

Welcome to my call for donations as part of the eLearning Africa Scholarship Trust.

eLearning Africa is an international ICT and Development Conference that takes place in a different African country each year. It's the largest gathering of eLearning and ICT supported education and training professionals in Africa, enabling participants to develop multinational and cross-industry contacts and partnerships, as well as to enhance their knowledge, expertise and abilities.

At eLearning Africa 2012, 1.483 education and training practitioners, experts, researchers, newcomers and providers from 69 countries gathered during the three conference days at the Palais des Congrès de Cotonou in Benin, Cotonou. 89% of the participants came from African countries. The conference programme featured the work of 300 speakers and chairpersons from 50 countries, addressing all forms of technology-enhanced learning and including a rich mix of themes, topics and a variety of session formats.

What makes this Trust unique is their focus on the richness of Africa, not its poverty.

Our mission is to make a lasting positive impact on education in Africa. We do so by investing in Africa’s educators, practitioners and research communities and leveraging the potential that Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) can offer.

Africa is on the move and the African youth is the key to its prosperity. That being said, having one of the largest populations of young people on earth places education at the heart of Africa’s future. Technology-enhanced learning and access to digital information have a vital role to play in making the most of what education has to offer Africa’s upcoming generations. Our mission is to make a lasting positive impact on education in Africa.

This is why we seek to sponsor the conference participation of as many low-income practitioners, educators and researchers as possible.

Please take the time to read some of their success stories: http://www.easttrust.org/story.php

Gathering funds to cover the costs of as many of the fantastic scholarship applicants as possible requires some tough fund-raising efforts, so to help us reach our goal we have organised the EAST Challenge – a five day trek to the summit of Namibia's highest mountain, the Brandberg (2573m above sea level).

So if you'd like to see me rallying up Namibia's highest mountain and thereby help Africa's and my rise, please donate.

Thank you
