What’s it about
Dear friends and colleagues,
We would be extremely grateful if you could spend two minutes of your precious time and donate a couple of £/ € or US$ for this wonderful project:
Time is running out as the Brazilian project "Filhos do Céu" (children of heaven) has until May 31st to collect the money to buy its property that the project is centred in. Otherwise the property will be sold on the open market, which may result in the project losing its footing to offer assistance and activities to the children in Arraial d'Ajuda in the Northeast of Brazil.
The property is owned by a private individual and has been given out to the project for free for the last two years. The individual now seeks to sell the house and hence our donation serves to finance the acquisition of a part of it: 1/3 of the money has already been collected by the Brazilian women and their partners through beneficial events, another 1/3 is coming from subsidies from institutions such as foundations or a Christian Youth Group (Jugenddankopfer). The last 1/3 shall be collected through donations. Total cost of acquiring the property: €40k. New owner of the property will be the project itself under the trust of the German development organisation Susila Dharma.
"Children of heaven" helps children in the age of 6 -18 living in poverty getting off the street. It shows them how important education is and gives them new perspectives. Courses such as arts, music, capoeira, IT courses and football give the children an identity and serve to strengthen their self-confidence. The objective is also to get more children attend schools and have the chance to lead a normal life far away from any criminal activities.
"Children of heaven" currently occupies one house close to the slums "Vala" in Arraial d'Ajuda. The house has class rooms for the courses, a cantine serving warm food (donated by the local supermarkets), a service room for medical attendance, a library and playgrounds. In this facility "Children of heaven" offers not only courses for children, but also for their families as well as regular fairs to sell second-hand clothes.
Every Euro is counting to save "children of heaven", and every penny you donate is going directly to the project!
