What happens when donations cannot be spent for the project?

If project managers have not applied for the collected donations for more than 12 months, we terminate the project. The law (§ 55 para. 1 no. 5 AO) and our terms of use stipulate that the funds must be used promptly.

We (gut.org gemeinnützige AG, operator of betterplace.org) then use the donations for our tax-privileged, statutory purposes.

The same applies in the event of a project cancellation by the project manager, i.e. if the planned project can no longer be implemented.

The same applies to funds from a fundraising campaign that can no longer be forwarded to the associated project because it can no longer receive funds.

In 2021 this money was used for the following purposes by gut.org gemeinnützigen Aktiengesellschaft in particular:

  • fundraising event for International Women’s Day
  • Giving Tuesday
  • betterplace advent wreth
• events on social media
• donations for starting a new project in may

  • Corona Soli
  • new recurring donations
  • betterplace advent wreth
• donations for various contests
  • the “Digial-Genial Donation Championship”
  • Future Leaders Fundraising Challenge
  • photo competition “Your most beautiful donation story”

In 2019 this money was used for the following purposes by gut.org gemeinnützigen Aktiengesellschaft:

• matching of donations to selected projects in different occasions:
  • climate protection
  • trees for #fridaysforfuture
  • Giving Tuesday
• a LIKE-campaign on facebook for International Women’s Day
• donations for starting a streamer fundraising event
• donations for starting a marathon fundraising event
• donations for various contests
  • cold aid
  • charity stream challenge
  • Future Leaders Fundraising Challenge

In 2018 this money was used for the following purposes by gut.org gemeinnützigen Aktiengesellschaft:

• matching of donations to selected projects in different occasions:
  • cold aid
  • Syria
  • sea rescue
• a voucher contest on facebook
• a LIKE-campaign on facebook
• a matching event for christimas

In 2017 this money was used for the following purposes by gut.org gemeinnützigen Aktiengesellschaft:

• matching of donations to selected projects in different occasions:
  • international day of sea rescue
  • international day of mental health
  • school starts in Germany
  • world climate conference
  • for Refugee Relief
• a LIKE-campaign on facebook
• a voucher-campaign

In 2016 this money was used for the following purposes by gut.org gemeinnützigen Aktiengesellschaft:

• matching of donations to selected projects in line with a Giving Tuesday Matching Fund:
  • for Refugee Relief
  • for Education
  • for Animal and Enivornment Protection
  • for Health Care
• improving the support for organisations and project manager
• co-financing of technical optimizations on our platform like for example the upload of videos on the project page
• supply of free, monthly webinars on topics such as Online Fundraising, volunteer opportunities and Christmas Fundraising for project managers

In 2015 this money was used for the following purposes by gut.org gemeinnützigen Aktiengesellschaft:

• matching of donations to selected projects in line with a Christmas Matching Fund
• enabling of recurring donation jobs in the integrated donation form
• co-financing of the re-design of fundraising events and the fundraising event-widget for project managers
• supply of free, monthly webinars on topics such as Online Fundraising and volunteer opportunities for project managers
