Hospital laboratory needs help urgently

The laboratory-team of Kwale Subdistrict Hospital directed an urgent call for assistance to us on 6th of April

Most of the donators are focused on the wards only.
Seeing the poor environment there animates you at once to donate some money.
But nobody pays attention to the laboratory.

The technical equipment is not so bad at all.

The main problem is the building which hasn't been renovated since 15 years.
Because the roof is leaky the ceiling is soaked through and the rain comes in.
The windows are old some of them are broken. Walls and doors needs a new paint.

The filing cabinets are nearly falling into pieces, the sink (a simple kitchen-sink) is old and meanwhile broken.
The floor cupboard is also broken. Chemical are kept in insecure looking racks.

Because most of the furniture is made from materials which are not the best choice for being used in a laboratory the working area cannot be kept clean.
Due to the lack of cabinets there is no real system possible.

Short-circuits are tried to avoid. And due to the lack of power sockets all analyzing devices are situated in one place.
That is not really efficient.

The analyzing devices are high quality. The team used them always very carefully.
These highly sensitive devices needs an environment which is not to humid and not too hot.
Therefore an air conditioning system is strongly necessary.

The member of the laboratory-team also want to support the patients which how to wait for longer times.
If the people are too weak to stand their only choice is to sit on the soil.
Building a waiting-bench would be a good assistance.

  Ein wirklich gutes Projekt. Ich war noch nie selber in Kenia, habe aber die Bilder gesehen die ein Verwndter dort gemacht hat. Das sind erschreckende Aufnahmen gewesen und deshalb habe ich für mich entschieden diese gute Sache ebenfalls zu unterstützen. Ich wünsche den verantwortlichen viel Erfolg und ein gures gelingen, diesen Menschen dort wirklich zu helfen.

  Vor 2 Wochen war ich in Kenia und habe auch unser Projekt das Kwale Hospital besucht. Wie auch im August 2008 waren die Zustände für europäische Gewohnheiten erschreckend. Die kranken, geschwächten Patienten sitzen vor den Behandlungszimmern auf dem nackten, staubigen Boden und warten auf ihre Behandlung. Ich selber verstehe, dass die Leute ihren Besuch beim Arzt so weit wie möglich hinauszögern. Auch wenn die Ärzte qualifiziert sind und ihr bestmögliches tun, um ihre Patienten zu behandeln, fehlen viele Dinge. Nicht nur die diagnostischen Mittel, sondern auch ein paar Dinge zur Verbesserung der Atmosphäre, wie zum Beispiel ein Wartebereich. Bei meinem letzten Besuch habe ich ein Kind bei der Blutabnahme gehört, was wie am Spieß geschrien hat, auch hier finde ich könnte man, wenn alle notwendigen Dinge getan sind, etwas zur Verbesserung der Umgebung tun. Zum Beispiel ein Mobile von der Decke hängen lassen, damit auch die Kleinsten der Patienten nicht ganz so viel Angst vorm Arztbesuch haben.
