AMAZING WILDLIFE PROTECTION EFFORTS IN THANH HOA PROVINCE IN VIETNAM

The amazing support for our wildlife rescue efforts by Forest Protection Department of Thanh Hoa, Xuan Lien and Pu Hu Nature Reserve and other authorities in Than Hoa Province show that the People in Vietnam are very keen on protecting their nature and wildlife in a very dedicated manner on all levels. If provided with professional information, education and support to implement the necessary measures, the authorities are very keen to control illegal wildlife trade and reintroduce the animals back into the wild were they belong!

Surely, not everything goes smooth and easy as planned. But solving problems is part of the job.

In the year 2013, the law enforcement efforts will be intensified, modern technology and training of patrol rangers and under cover agents are planned. Animal caretakers have been trained and more will be trained to take first good care of the animals before they are forwarded to the wildlife holding stations, which are under construction at the moment!

Confiscated Asian Black Bear cubs need help!

Two Baby Asian Black Bears (Ursus thibetanus) were rescued from illegal wildlife traders by the Forest Protection Department, Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam).  Pu Hu Nature Reserve needs urgent support to raise the two cubs to be released in the Nature Reserve in the future.

Another two macaques rescued

On Feb 6, 2012 a Rhesus Macaque was confiscated in Thanh Hoa City. Acutely undernourished and sufferinf from balance difficulties, has was brought to Pu Hu Nature Reserve for rehabilitation. 

A Stump-tailed macaquee was confiscated and transferred to Xuan Lien Nature Reserve in the afternoon of Feb 8, 2012.

Assamese macaque rescued

An assamese macaque was rescued from a local store, where is was chained to a fence, by officers of FPD Thanh Hoa. Well done!

Endangered Slow Loris Release back into the wild

With our support the Forest Protection Department Thanh Hoa in Vietnam was able to release a confiscated Pygmy Loris back into the wild in May 2011.

Pgymy loris are nocturnal animals, living in the tropical dry forests of Vietnam, western Laos, Cambodia and southern China. This loris were nearly wiped out during extensive burning, clearing and defoliating of forests in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

In Viet Nam, the Pygmy Loris is heavily exploited for traditional “medicine” as well as for the pet trade, at levels that are not sustainable; it is also used as a food source by many. The species has been recently transfer from Appendix II to Appendix I of CITES.
