Lobzang gives speech at the opening of kamerakidz photo exhibition, August 2012

In early august Lobzang Stobdan (one of nilam´s project beneficiaries) had his first big "presentation" in Leh. Nana Ziesche, a German photographer and travel tours leader, had implemented a photo project with some of the SECPAD students in the remote valley of Zanskar already in summer 2011: kamerakidz! The pictures have been taken bythe children themselves, showing different aspects and impressions of their lives, from their very own perspective. The captured motives range from their natural environment to photos of relatives and friends. Nana has now taken a wide selection of these to Leh. And as it turned out that Lobzang was the only participant of the Project who is residing inLeh, he was allowed to hold the opening speech at the exhibition. And had an important visitor: the Dalai Lama himself joined the event! Unbelievably proud and happy, Lobzang was still running with a huge smile on his lips for many days to follow, as Nana expressed later in an email to nilam. To give that speech in English showed how much he had already learned at Mahabodhi School where not only his language abilities are improving rapidly and he is enjoying the large variety of things to do and learn. Additionally Lobzang has already made friends with many of the other students residing like him the hostel of the school - a great balance so after only 9 months in Leh!

post from Lobzang, April 2012

"After a long time your student Lobzang writes a letter to you. I am very happy because I also received your letter and I´d like to thank you and your friends in this time I am in Mahabodhi School and also in Hostel. I am so happy and I like this school and I also found many new friends. (...) In our class there are 30 students and they become very good friends. During winter holidays I went back to our village and my father and my mother were very hapy because I can join the school because of your and your friends help. They also say "Thank you!"...(...)"

These are excerpts from Lobzang´s letter that he has sent to us from Leh in April 2012. In this letter, Lobzang is expressing his great thankfulness as well the gratefulness of his parents for all the support that enables him to go to the Mahabodhi School in Leh since November last year. At Mahabodhi, Lobzang lives in the hostel of the school together with other classmates (who are – like him - from remote and distant parts of the country) and where he has already settled in very well, made contact and found some friends and experiences his new school with a lot of fun! In order for Lobzang to be able to continue his studies and stay at Mahabodhi School, nilam is further relying on your help. With many thanks from Lobzang and his family: Thuk Che Che!!!

Lobzangs first school day in Leh, November 2011

The 21.11.2011 is a very special day for Lobzang - after having received the news that nilam decided to finance his studies at a school in Ladakh’s capital Leh, Lobzang immediately set off with his father for a 5days walk on the "Frozen River" ( Cheddar) to get there. When they arrived, his path led straight to the Mahabodhi School  which enjoys a good reputation far beyond the borders of Ladakh. Mr. Deepak (the principal) assured to Lobzangs father and to us me that he and the other teachers would take good care of the boy. He informed us also that due to some "gaps" in Lobzangs abilities, he had to repeat the 8th class. Until now, we could not speak personally with Lobzang yet, but as we have heard from Mr. Deepak, the boy is doing fine and that he is very excited that his personal dream of going to school in Leh now has begun like an adventure! We are all truly happy and relieved that everything went on so well!

For Lobzang to one day get his degree that would allow him to become a teacher one day (as he wishes) will take another estimated 3 years of staying and studying at Mahabodhi school. Therefore we are happy about any support that can help us to raise enough money for his education. If you have any questions about the project or might want to share your ideas and thoughts about Lobzangs dream, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to hear from you!

In addition to that, I might say that Lobzang loves Mail – so if you would like to write a letter to him, please contact us and we will be happy to provide his address for you. Thank you very much and best wishes - Thuk Che Che and Tashi Delek!
