Center for International Voluntary Service (CIVS) is a Kenyan development organization formed in 1993 working with volunteers. Rather than sending instant relief in the form of food or money, CIVS sends people to share their skills and experience with local communities. CIVS offers the following four kinds of voluntary projects:
- Workcamps
- Medium and Long Term Projects
- Weltwärts Projects
- CIVS Community Projects
WORKCAMPS
CIVS organizes a 3-weeks workcamp every month with volunteers participating from different countries. These workcamps take place in rural communities of Kenya and combine developmental activities with cultural exchange and recreational activities.
MEDIUM & LONG TERM PROJECTS
CIVS offers various voluntary positions at projects and organizations all around Kenya. These projects last between one month and one year. Examples of these voluntary projects are working in orphanages, schools, microfinance projects, Environmental Conservation, agricultural projects etc.
weltwärts VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
This is a program initiated by the Government of Germany to enable young people to work in developing countries. The aim of this program is to provide youths with some international experience and qualifications that will be of help to them in their future lives and when choosing a career. CIVS through German partners is therefore implementing this program in Kenya
CIVS COMMUNITY PROJECT
CIVS is implementing a community project in Ahero, situated in Western Kenya. It specifically aims at supporting the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in this region. With the help of the African Foundation we have constructed the Ahero Resource Centre to provide a feeding program for the orphans, computer training to the youths, and microfinance activities to the community among other things.
