The Displaced and Migrant Persons Support Program has full reports and investigations into the situation at the Central Methodist Church. Please refer to our blog www.dmpsp.iblog.co.za for complete details. Although it is really great that people a getting together to provide assistance for the facility, we believe it is inhumane to continue to keep people is such conditions any longer. The central methodist church is not a shelter it is a haven for abuse and crime. The facility is not equiped or structured to be a shelter even for ten people (let alone the claim of 3000 which is untrue) It is badly managed and unhygienic and the public is being mis informed as to the reasons why people are being "kept" at that facility. We believe the focus should be on providing assistance to move the people out of the church instead of assistance to keep the facility going. It is time that the world learn the truth about the facility, the political intimidation and manipulation that is going on amongst the residents. The political manipulation that is taking place from organizations that are gaining media miliage out of keeping the facility open, the complete resistance to change, compliance with health and other regulations, and the challenging of government and its authority to apply the rule of law by Bishop Paul Verryn. We commend his actions and willingness to help the displaced people, but the situation is well beyond his capabilities and control.. We call on all organizations that claim to look after human rights and dignity to stop using the situation at the church as a means to apply pressure with regards to the situation in Zimbabwe. There are many ways that attention can be created over Zim without making people to suffer the in an undignified manner at the CMC. We have countless reports of abuse by people who have left the facility and are more willing to stay on the streets or sleep at railway stations than to stay at the CMC. We will state clearly.. that all statements being made that the facility at the CMC is a haven or shelter that is helping people.... is a lie.. the propaganda campaign to glorify the actions being taken to "help" zimabbweans... Is a lie.. The facility MUST be closed. People that are in real need of assistance must be relocated to proper facilities that have been made available and placed on a proper exit program.
