We have good news for those who had been looking forward to the program of the African Book Festival 2020 curated by Kalaf Epalanga. This year we intend to make up for what had to be postponed due to the crisis and we are planning the festival in July at the beautiful outdoor cinema Freiluftkino Rehberge in Berlin!
Kalaf Epalanga is still in charge of the artistic direction and lusophone African literature stays at the heart of the event. The programme will undergo a few tweaks here and there and the formats will be adapted to the recommendations in place.
We need your support to make the festival happen!
Why donate? In the past year, the cultural sector suffered a lot from the crisis and it is therefore very important for us that all artists contributing to the Festival receive proper remuneration. With your donations you will support the artistic participation of all authors, readers and musicians. We will also use the donations to pay for translation costs as this year’s Festival focuses on lusophone literature.
The African Book Festival is the biggest African literature festival in Germany, presenting star authors from all over the continent. Here, the most prominent and best-known writers, poets and artists from Africa and/or the diaspora meet to discuss books, the art of writing and social/political topics of our times. We look forward to readings, interviews, panel discussions, film, theatre, poetry slam and music. To make sure that the immense diversity of the African continent is represented, the festival is curated every year by a different literary personality from Africa. This is to guarantee that the regional focus as well as the main language, the literary genre and the cultural background change every year.
Many thanks in advance to all supporters of this year’s Festival!
