Mozambique is considered one of the poorest countries in the world. This makes the economic motor and the jobs created by tourism in the country all the more valuable. Unfortunately, however, many locals lack the qualifications that these jobs entail. We want to change that!
Due to the Corona crisis, the holiday regions are particularly affected. Since no financial support can be expected from the government, young people in particular are denied the chance to build a better future.
To improve the situation, we are working together with the local vocational school (Centro de Formação Profissional de Vilankulo) in Vilankulo. Young Mozambicans are trained there as painters, bricklayers, electricians, bartenders and in housekeeping. The professions are now to be expanded to include training as cooks and kitchen assistants. Because: the demand for skilled workers is there. What is missing, however, is a suitable training kitchen, with appropriate equipment and qualified teachers.
In addition, we will provide a total of 20 scholarships to enable students from financially weak families to train in the training kitchen. We also attach great importance to supporting young women through the scholarships. This is because more than 50% of the women in rural Mozambique are illiterate, as they are often treated disadvantageously in Mozambique.
The Friedrich Hospitality Foundation has set itself the task of building and equipping a fully equipped kitchen for the vocational school. In addition, we plan to send trained professionals from Germany to Mozambique once the construction work has been completed. They will train the teachers for the new classes on site and support them in developing the teaching content.
Support us! Your contribution will not only help us to build a training kitchen, but will also give many young people a professional future - and thus a better life.
