Update: After the Fire II

We are improvising and collaborating with our partners on the ground by facilitating the continuation of corona awareness projects and keeping things clean. Even though they no longer function inside Moria, Moria Corona Awareness Team and Moria White Helmets have been working on a few projects.

Waste Removal: Moria White Helmets continues to clean up the rubbish in the areas where people are staying. Keeping these spaces clean is crucial to keep the communities safe and to help keep Lesvos as clean as possible. Funds are still required for the truck for waste removal and materials (rubbish bags and PPE).

Moria Pet Project: Many kittens and cats, puppies, and dogs are abandoned in the rubbles of Moria Camp. They are screaming of thirst and hunger. Moria Corona Awareness Team and Moria White Helmets distributed food and water to them and rescued some injured kittens. We will continue to do so. If you like to help, you can donate. Our partners are helping the abandoned animals of Moria Camp. Local veterinarians have contacted us and offered assistance and people are reaching out to adopt the animals.

We have a contract with a local veterinarian now who will come to Moria on Friday and then regularly to take care of the injured animals. And we have a local whole sale who will supply us with food for a good price.

Corona Awareness: MCAT has begun hanging and distributing posters to help educate people on how to minimize the risks of spreading coronavirus. Over 20 new cases have been confirmed. “We all need together to stop the spreading of the pandemic. We are Moria White Helmets and we work hard and don't give up.” Our partners are also distributing masks and soap. Organizing distribution that does not create ugly scenes of crowds is the biggest challenge but thanks to the great discipline of our partners and the strong cooperation it starts to function.

Things are changing and the situation is different than it was before without Moria but one thing remains the same with Stand By Me Lesvos. Our partners on the ground lead themselves and we provide the logistical and financial support to keep them going.
