#CantStayHome - If You Don't Have One
We can count ourselves lucky that our healthcare system in Germany is so advanced and fundamentally functioning. Unfortunately, the corona virus also occurs in areas where an outbreak will have catastrophic consequences. There are millions of people worldwide who have little or no access to medical care. Their tents are close next to each other, there is no access to clean water and therefore hardly any hygiene. Their tents are over-crowded, cold, and leaking. Diseases spread rapidly within these refugee camps.
International aid organizations assume that the number of people living in refugee camps who are infected is very high. There are currently more than 4 million people in northern Syria. Around 60% of them are children. There is also a very high number of older people who are physically at their limits after their displacement.
In order for COVID-19 not to lead to a fatal collapse of the anyway very over-exhausted and hardly existing health system in northern Syria, we are trying to educate people first and educate them more about #SocialDistancing as far as possible. We would like to reduce a large and rapid increase of infections. So far we have done the following things in our COVID-19 response:
- More than 1,000 hygiene packages + 1,000 food packages distributed
- Large-scale disinfection of 3 refugee camps (around 30,000 m²)
- Reached more than 10,000 people directly with our awareness campaign
- Start of construction of an isolation center near Afrin for COVID-19 infected
We have around 1,300 employees working tirelessly for the refugees in northern Syria! Our teams reach camps with mobile clinics, and care for hundreds of people in our primary health centers every day. Your donation contributes directly to us providing hygiene + food safety and medical care for the children and their families.
We distribute information materials and important hygiene packages with necessary hygiene articles. Food prices have risen by 800% since the war and we are distributing food packages to ensure food safety. Such a package takes care of an entire family for a month. We are also supporting an orphanage in northern Syria with around 600 children in their care, also with food supplies The orphanage is operated by the local partner organization Al Salam.
