RuhrstadtTRÄUMER - young people get engaged in their community

One of the biggest urban areas in Europe is the Ruhrgebiet in western Germany. Cities like Bochum, Bottrop, Dortmund, Essen or Duisburg give home for people with various cultural backgrounds. It’s a space of diversity but also a space of conflicts.

But what does this area offer to young people? Do they see the potential in their communities? What disturbs them in their surroundings? How do they imagine their personal future and the future of their communities? How do they want to contribute to the development of their cities? What are they dreaming of?

RuhrstadtTRÄUMER accompanies young people for a period of four month. Together they discuss the topics of society which are burning for them and which they would like to address. They develop project ideas and learn what it means to implement a project from A to Z. On their side they have peer-mentors who accompany them until the final public presentation of the projects.

In order to implement the program this year, we need your help:
We would love to give all young people the chance to take part in the project and therefore participants do not need to pay anything. RuhrstadtTRÄUMER is a grant and we want to keep it like this.

We invited 12 young people from Duisburg to come to Attendorn to our summer camp in order to use imagination and engagement for developing social project ideas, to implement them in the local communities and to learn what it means to be an active part of society.

How can you help?
We need your help in financing the 5 days evaluation seminar taking place in October.
We need money for accommodation and board.

RuhrstadtTRÄUMER is a program for young people aged from 16 to 20 with different cultural backgrounds coming from Duisburg and its neighboring cities who want to bring ideas into action.
It aims to empower youngsters to act self-responsible for their needs, ideas and interests. In two camps (summer and autumn) they start to develop own ideas for projects which are to be implemented after the first camp. This way they support their local neighborhood and community and at the same time develop personal perspectives for their own future. After taking part in the program, participants from last year easily found new contacts, cooperation partners for new projects and places for internships and other ways of gaining professional experience. Like this, self-confidence among the young people was raised regarding their personal and professional development.
