Wolf Durmashkin Composition Award

With the competition and a concert we would like to remember the murdered and forgotten musician Wolf Durmashkin and thus initiate a new kind of commemorative culture on the history of the dictatorship and following National Socialism.

It is also about the forgotten history of the so-called DP Orchestra (Displaced Persons - survivors of the concentration camps), which was founded after the end of the Second World War in St. Ottilien.

On May 10, 1948, four days before the founding of the State of Israel, they gave a concert in the DP Camp Landsberg am Lech.

On special request, the concert was conducted by the then 29-year-old Leonard Bernstein.

1st prize € 3,000
2nd prize € 2,000
3rd prize € 1,500

The premiere will take place on May 10, 2018 in Landsberg am Lech, exactly 70 years after the original concert.

The prizes are to show that such initiatives for a new culture of remembrance are borne and rewarded from the center of society.
