The Thuringian-Cambodian Society was founded in May 2000. With the principle of "help for self-help", we want to enable the people from Cambodia to adapt to the country-specific life situation by means of projects in the areas of school education, environment, agriculture and the media. In 2000, the Cambodian Education and Waste Management Organization was established in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to enable projects to be better planned and implemented. In March 2011, we launched the development aid project "Soziales Abfallzentrum Battambang”.
AS SOCIAL WASTE CENTER BATTAMBANG (SAB) was built in March 2011 directly next to the landfill to improve the livelihoods of people in need of care and to provide them with access to education. At the landfill, families live and work from the collection, sorting and sale of recyclable materials. They fight daily for survival under extreme conditions. Not-only the health risks and the unbalanced diet, but also the lack of education opportunities are among the biggest problems.
At SAB, we are working to provide children with a decent childhood life, to improve the hygienic conditions and to give them an opportunity for education. We offer a comprehensive hygiene program and a balanced meal every day. In addition, there are English lessons, football training, circus training and various workshops. TKG is one of the active associations of development aid and is mainly organized by volunteer employees.
