“We envision an integrated Germany where everyone has the opportunity to contribute towards a diverse and stronger society.”

Turning Tables aims to facilitate refugee integration in Germany through a journey with training, mentoring and working experience steps centered around food and intercultural exchange in the gastronomy sector.

Turning Tables promotes integration through a holistic approach that targets personal, practical and (inter) cultural aspects of newcomers’ lives and that of their host society. For us, integration is a two-way process, involving both parties every step of the way.

We are a team of international professionals with backgrounds in business, international development, gastronomy and social work with a passion for cultural exchange, social inclusion and diversity.

Our step by step integration programme includes:

1. Mentoring, personal motivation and development:
programme participants will be paired with integrated refugees, senior citizens and professionals in the food and service sector who will guide them throughout their journey with Turning Tables.
2. A training course with theoretical and practical classes in basic food and beverage handling, customer service, health and hygiene and intercultural skills among others.
3. Practical working experiences via partnerships with gastronomy and service related companies. This will provide newcomers with the opportunity to test the theoretical knowledge acquired through the training and put this into practice in a real German working environment.
4. Matching. During the matching process there are job interviews between the refugees and our partners, where the companies present their vacancies.

What is your donation devoted to?

After our successful pilot workshop in October 2016, which prepared 12 participants for a vocational training in the gastronomy sector, we are fine-tuning the concept and would like to give the opportunity to more refugees to participate and get integrated into the German labour market.
The implementation of a workshop requires renting training kitchens, buying food stuff for cooking, providing training material and covering our training staff.

As reward to your donation above 50 € you receive a spice and recipe card set to spice up your kitchen! Leave your contact details via the donation formular (will only be shown to Turning Tables) and have your package delivered home!

All donations will be devoted to funding further gastronomy workshops.
