Devi Chanchla the Cook of the School

Every day Devi Chanchla takes the 3km walk to prepare the warm meals for the (half-)orphans of the school. For the boys, who call the AOZORA School their home, Chanchla became something like a second mother. Seven years ago, when her husband developed a severe mental disorder and her family slipped into financial problems, Chanchla started working in the AOZORA School. Now she holds the full responsibility for her family in her hands – including her three daughters, her youngest son and her ill husband. Following the cultural rules of the traditional India, Chanchla also has to provide the dowry for her three daughters - a task barely manageable for a woman in one of the poorest regions of this planet. We met Chanchla as a proud woman, who has not given up. The AOZORA School became a second home also for her.
