Bunte Gärten Leipzig e.V. is an association that works towards the integration of people of different descents and origins. It has been existing in Leipzig for many years and we are now trying to put new energy into the project.
We are a voluntary organisation and focus on the integration and inclusion of refugees and people seeking asylum in Leipzig. We want to create a place that brings people together, that provides security and comfort and that offers them a task to engage in.
We believe gardening can work as a possibility for integration as it offers people a mutual activity where everybody can be involved, where people can learn from each other and include a useful task into their everyday life which for refugees is often characterised by very little variety.
The center of the project lies in the Eastern part of Leipzig where we are now working towards opening our new gardening spaces.
Communal gardening work there is intended to facilitate trust and self-esteem, to break isolation and to foster tolerance and respect.
