I visited EMDI BRIDGE TO SECONDARY SCHOOL project last summer and met with 3 of the 4 school principals and all 6 student recepients of the scholarship funds. I also saw AllyMeg the cow and Dolly the goat. AllyMeg caught on really quickly that she was the centre of attention and was quite feisty as she ran across the school soccer field. The funds that have been donated so far have gone into the project almost 100%. I trust the coordinators of the project both in Canada and the Village.

Why do you think the project deserves to be supported?

I had the opportunity to visit the village in August 2010 and witnesed the excitement in the schools with regards to the resources that had been donated and the cows. Students needing tuition support are selected purely on merit. Some classes have 70+ students. The classrooms are in dire need of good flooring and desks. To this point, all the funds that have been donated have gone directly to the projects as intended.

Our group of 6 retired teachers from Canada went to the village where we lived and volunteered for a month. It was a life changing experience and we returned to Canada inspired to do what we could to support the women and children . It is a poor but happy place . Antonina Aura is doing an amazing job trying to encourage the children to work hard in school. She has registered the womens group and continues to encouragie the women in the village to start small businesses. Our group here is trying to find ways to support the project through small fundraising activities in Canada . This village is forever in our hearts and thoughts.

I am proud to be a part of the project . Sending a child to secondary school is an easy way to make a difference in someones lives .Hopefully each of the children will graduate and then help another child to go to secondary school. We are so proud of the wonderful women in the Bumasai womens group who are starting projects to raise money to support their families. The cows that we bought for the schools are healthy and growing fast and soon the children will be able to have milk at school . This village is in our hearts and we will continue to encourage and support them and hope that even in a small way we are making a difference.
