About this project

As in many regions in sub-Saharan Africa, Eritrea is currently facing a severe challenge to meet the rising energy demands. Persistent rolling blackouts in the last few years have meant that electricity supply in many parts of Eritrea became unreliable. Although Geothermal, solar, wind, bio-fuel and other clean energy mechanisms are being promoted throughout the country, much has still to be accomplished to meet the current and future energy demand. Solar energy systems provide a sustainable alternative to the current field of energy resources. Our project objective is to promote, create awareness and build hands on knowledge of solar energy mechanism among the youth.

ROPE will provide 10 classroom lighting solar lamps to a primary school in Asmara, to assist with the schools’ evening study sessions. Our overarching goal is to assist the students with their studies and lend a hand at possibly improving their futures. Furthermore, we also aim to raise awareness and understanding about the benefits of environmentally friendly technologies by using the tool of ARTS.
The children participate in a craft and art project under the guidance of young Eritrean artists. We believe through the interdisciplinary approach by combing arts and the ecological knowledge of solar energy, the children will develop both a greater appreciation and a broader understanding of what they are learning. Furthermore, the project facilitates productive socialization by having the children work together on a common effort – building team, and social aspects. It also helps to improve motor skills through the use of pencils, scissors, paintbrushes and other tools that require dexterity and coordination. At the end of the program the children will present their music and craft project in front of the community, teachers, parents, family members, friends and guests.

What Does This Money Go Towards?
So far, ROPE has been able to cover the costs for the solar lamps. All that remains in our goals is a further 800€ which is meant for basic art materials for the intended 20-30 participants. These materials include canvas, acrylic, pencils, scissors, pencils, brushes watercolors. This lasting amount is intended to also include further event costs, such as food and beverage.

We need your help to get there! Your donations and support is the only way we can make it. Anything you can do to help is highly appreciated.

On behalf of ROPE, we thank you!

Redieta and Saba
