2013, a school kitchen for the Sabrina Primary School Bwagamoyo in Pengo / Kenia was constructed and taken into service.
Meanwhile, more than 500 children are provided with daily meals - millet porridge (uji) for breakfast and a warm lunch.
To offer a good working place for the chefs, it was important to us that the ovens would cause as little smoke as possible. On top of that, we wanted to contribute to the protection of our environment such that we would like to purchase ovens that would not need a lot of firewood.
Unfortunately, the ovens that were acquired in 2013 are not able to accomplish what they were promised to. The chefs are standing in thick smoke twice a day and the ovens burn far too much wood. However, we do not only want to ensure healthy nutrition for the children, but also a healthy workplace for the people who are taking care of that matter.
For this reason, we would like to change the ovens. During one of our last visits we were inspecting other schools for different options and found a good solution with ovens from a manufacturer in Nairobi.
Those ovens cost about 2,000 Euros a piece. - That is a lot of money! But we believe that the chefs' health (one chef already had to stop working on helth grounds) and the preservation of the environment are important enough to invest so much money.
But to accomplish that we need your help. Since 4,000 Euros are such a large figure, we divided it. We will split the donation appeal into tenths, where each one resembles the need for 50 children. When you bear in mind that it is possible to feed 50 children and to preserve the health ofthe chefs and our environment with 400 Euros, the figure does not appear that large anymore, does it?!
We are very happy about every donation - each Cent counts!
