Fundamental rights for girls working in households

Legal assistance for pregnant girls and young mothers in Mali. We support girls, who suffer economic exploitation and maltreatment with legal assistance and by obtaining birth certificates for their babies.

Girls working in households in Bamako, Mali are often economically and/or sexually exploited with no one to turn to for protection and support. Several lose their jobs due to early pregnancies and find themselves in the streets exposed to various risks for themselves and their babies.
Our project spreads awareness for the fundamental rights of girls working in households, enforces these rights and advocates legislative reforms regarding the protection of girls on the labour market, e.g. minimum wages and determinate hours of rest. Young mothers receive legal assistance and are supported in obtaining birth certificates for their children. Our centre "Bamunan" takes in girls and young mothers in difficulty and offers apprenticeships for taking up a qualified job afterwards.
