Great news from Lamandau!

New orangutan offspring in the Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve: Welcome baby Marsha! Our colleagues from Orangutan Foundation UK recently spotted mother Mores with her newborn in Lamandau (see the new picture in the gallery). Marsha is Mores’ third infant after she gave birth to Marcell and Martin in previous years – an additional indication that Lamandau is an important breeding habitat for orangutans and thus contributes to the conservation of these fascinating animals.  Orangutan infants show the longest dependence on their mothers among all  primates and leave them with only about 9 years of age. Marsha will also learn from her mother everything she needs to know to survive in the rainforest , and we hope to be able to continue to monitor her development.

All the best to Mores and Marsha!
