Diakonia Good Deed
Ilshat A., 3 years old, Almaty, Kazakhstan. Diagnosis: primary immunodeficiency - Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome.
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome is a rare and severe genetic disorder that causes internal bleeding and multiple infections due to the severely weakened immunity. Currently, the only effective treatment is bone marrow stem cell transplantation. Without a transplant, most children do not live to be adolescent.
Ilshat's disease manifested itself at the age of 5 months. Since that, four incorrect diagnoses were made, the child underwent an unnecessary chemotherapy, that brought him to the intensive care. The correct diagnosis was made only after a genetic analysis in a Moscow laboratory.
The transplantation can be done at the Munich University Hospital. The total cost of the treatment is EUR 300,000, this includes a detailed examination of Ilshat's older brother, who may become a suitable donor, and the rehabilitation after the operation. To date, EUR 69,750 have been raised. It remains to collect EUR 230,250.
