Many countries in South and East Africa have been affected by the worst drought in this area in the last 50 years. Islands in the Pacific as well as countries in Latin America suffer under the effects of the current El Niño, a meteoreological phenomenon that raises the temperature along the equator every two to eight years which consequently causes massive droughts as well as heavy rainfall and floodings. In countries such as Malawi and Ethiopia entire harvests have died in the past months while the supply with clean drinking water has deteriorated. According to CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg e.V. more than 60 million people worldwide are directly affected by the effects of El Niño.
Relief organizations have already been on site for months: In the affected areas they fight against hunger and spreading diseases. On betterplace.org they are collecting donations for their immediate relief work: food, badly needed vaccine, special infant food for malnourished children. Apart from that they also need support for the establishment of supplies for clean drinking water, sanitary facilities, and the education of health workers. Other organizations focus on helping the local population with the reconstruction of their agricultural basic means of existence by planting trees and distributing seeding materials. Support them now with your donation!
Do you have your own refugee project and want to raise funds? Your El Niño aid project is already registered on betterplace.org but does not pop up here? Do you want to turn your birthday into a good cause? Do you need volunteers to help you on the ground?
