The Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association (FOCHA) is a non-profit organisation based at the Red Cross War MemorialChildren’sHospital. We’ve been in existence since 1978, operating as TheFamilyResource Centre.
Our purpose is to accelerate and maintain the recovery ofpatientsattending the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital byprovidingresources, education and support to patients, care-givers and immediate families.
As FRIENDS, we believe that physical and emotional healing work simultaneously.
The Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association depends solely on the support of the community. With your help, we are able to provide a more comfortable stay for the children and their families at the RedCross War Memorial Children’s Hospital – because happiness is going home!
What we do:
FOCHA’s primary objective is to minimise the anxiety of the hospitalisation experience for the patients attending the Red Cross War memorial Children’s Hospital, and to ease the adjustment process for their families through providing resources, support and education. This allows parents and care-givers to manage the health of their children effectively.
We offer a varied learning experience which encourages families to remain active participants in the care and recovery of their children.
This experience includes accessibility to various programmes:
Arts & Crafts
FOCHA’s sustainability is ensured through the commitment from volunteers and the support & generosity displayed by members of the community and also corporate donors.
We host approximately 100 volunteers who take turns visiting the wards and clinics. Through reading to and playing with the young patients, FOCHA volunteers comfort them and shower them with attention and love.
We also provide:
Gifts & parties celebrating various occasions for both in-patients and out-patients (Birthdays, Christmas, Easter)
Various support groups for the families and care-givers to attend:
HIV / AIDS
Infectious disease education
Condition specific support groups
