The two years project „Build Peace on Your Own – Civil Society for A United Caucasus“ is an educational project about peace-building and youth empowerment in the South Caucasus, targeted at youth (16-25) and youth/ social workers from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The project is carried by 6 non-profit organisations based in Berlin, The Hague, Barcelona, Tbilisi, Vanadzor and Baku that are experienced in peace education and community development.

The project features a training programme consisting of two training courses with study-visit elements in Berlin (DE) and The Hague (NL) to discover peace building processes in Europe since the end of WWII. In the second phase, during approximately six months (autumn 2012 – spring 2013) the participants of these events will organise local initiatives with youth affected by frozen conflicts in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The local initiatives will tackle community problems such as youth unemployment, gender inequality, social exclusion. A last common meeting is planned in Georgia during summer 2013 to share experiences acquired during the implementation of the local initiatives and strengthen future cooperation.

The first event in Berlin that will gather 24 youth leaders is partially funded by the European Commission’s Youth in Action programme. Hence we are currently fundraising complementary funds for the local initiatives in the South Caucasus and the training programme.
