Over the last decades, the political and social context as well as the non-existence of cultural information sources in Pakistan, led to a decline of cultural activities in general and in particular in local (classical and folk) culture.

In November 2005 the project Danka ( was started with the objective to improve cultural activities and thus to establish communication, exchange and stronger local involvement within the different social classes in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

Producing, creating and attending cultural events is believed to be essential for human well being, human identity, peace, exchange, creativity, self-expression, participation, understanding and knowledge. It furthers communication and exchange within the different social classes in the cities of Pakistan and its surroundings.

The lack of information was the core problem and Danka decided to fill this gap by providing a free and participative platform to share cultural information. It established itself as the main information source and relay for cultural events in Pakistan. Danka developed quickly into a cultural hub, relaying information while promoting alternative and quality cultural events, creating strong bonds with cultural centers and providing the media with informed and quality contents.

Danka is a non-commercial and mainly volunteer effort. Only minimal financial support has been given to cover some of the expenses. With the current finances, the workload and capacity it is not possible to set actions to create infrastructure or a sustainable base.

By making culture more present in the media and within the population, the project will develop the access to culture, sustain cultural values and empower the population and artists in creating and sharing their cultural bondage. Danka had already contributed to the cultural welfare of the city by increasing the audience of cultural events, and giving people the chance of attending events by relaying broadly and comprehensively the information.

With your donations you help directly to create a sustainable base and infrastructure for Danka to follow its main objectives:

- To be the link between artists, cultural events organizers and the public by collecting, organizing, providing and broadcasting free information.

- To improve cultural activity in Pakistan in terms of quantity and quality.

- To establish culture as a strong value.

- To culturally educate people and motivate them to add and create their own culture.

- To offer an open tool to share culture, communicate cultural diversity, present cultural values and connect people
