Collaborative work

I have been receiving great support from a Californian who worked as a "foreign expert" with the Deaf Unit of the Lao Disabled People's Association.  He has been pointing out small details that need to be corrected. He impressed with my progress and I've asked permission to print his direct words as follows:

You can't imagine how happy I am to see a well made aesthetically pleasing easy to follow sign Lao sign language text. You are doing a fantastic job on this. The sign for sheep looks good. If you wanted to make more work for yourself you could figure out some visual way to indicate that the fingers for the sign sheep represent shears cutting the wool. The left arm representing the sheep, the right hand being the shears doing the cutting of the wool - maybe a photo of the hand shape next to a photo of shears? No need to do that though because what you captured looks great.

Most people I've seen signing "Cat" incorporate a mouth movement - mouthing "maeo" - which is kind of hard to capture in a photograph.

Have a couple of other people show you the sign for elephant. Just going from memory it looks to me like his sign might be starting at the right spot, but the photos don't seem to capture the end of the sign. it seems to be ending too high (above the eyes rather than below chin level).

Pages like this bring tears to my eyes. I can just imagine the next generation of kids passing through the schools having access to your work. You are making an absolutely fantastic contribution to the lives of countless people whom you may never have the chance to meet. This is beautiful.

OUTSTANDING  Far better than anything else I've seen in the region and comparable with what I've seen over here.  It is wonderful that the first book of this kind in Lao PDR will set the bar high, very high for all others who may come after you in the future.  It will also set the bar high in the region.
